Issue 13 - July 2005 Jesus Is Lord Michael A. Verdicchio There is a verse of Scripture in the book of Acts about Jesus Christ that is most enlightening. The Apostle Paul, speaking to his accusers on Mars Hill in Athens, is telling them that God has appointed a day… Acts 17:31:The assurance that God has given to all that Jesus Christ is the one, is that God raised him from the dead to die no more. God has not done that for any other person. That is the proof; that is the assurance to all that Jesus Christ is lord. Philippians 2:9 -11:The assurance to all men that Jesus is lord is that God raised him from the dead. In addition, God has highly exalted him and given him a name which is above every name. As far as God is concerned, the name of Jesus Christ is above every name. I'm sure you've heard people get angry and abuse that wonderful name. When it happens around me, I speak up! Why not? God has highly exalted Jesus Christ and given him a name above every name - why should I have to listen to someone degrade him? Acts 2:36:God is the one that raised Jesus Christ from the dead. God is the one Who highly exalted Jesus Christ and gave him a name above every name. And here in Acts 2:36 we see where God has made Jesus Christ both, "Lord and Christ." "Lord" is a title, and as a title it is used many times as a title of nobility and other rank or as a title for certain high officials and dignitaries. For example, in the Revolutionary War, there was a British General named Charles Cornwallis. "General" was his military rank. He was also referred to at times, as, "Lord Cornwallis." He was also an "earl" and a "marquis", which were ranking titles of nobility. "Sir" is also a title many times used before the name of knights or baronets. Like the word, "lord", it is a title that shows honor and respect and dignity. When placed in front of a name, it adds honor and respect due that person, like in the case of, Sir Winston Churchill. In Acts 2:36 it says that God has made Jesus "both Lord and Christ" - "Christ" meaning the anointed one, the Messiah. God has declared that Jesus Christ is not only the Messiah, but he is also both - "Lord and Christ." God gave Jesus Christ the title of "Lord". There are other men who have had the title of, "Lord". However none of them have completed mankind's salvation and redemption. God hasn't raised any of them from the dead to die no more. God hasn't given any of them a name that is above all names. God only did that for one man, Jesus Christ! In the book of Timothy and in the Book of Revelation, Jesus Christ is referred to as, "Lord of lords". He is lord of all men! There may be other "lords", but Jesus Christ is "Lord of lords." As a matter of fact recognizing that title is required to get saved. Confessing his lordship and believing that God raised him from the dead, is all that is required to get saved! People may argue with that, or, people may say that it is just too easy. But Jesus Christ is the one who has completed mankind's salvation and redemption. Jesus Christ is the one God raised from the dead. Jesus Christ is the one God has highly exalted and given a name that is above all other names. JESUS CHRIST IS OUR LORD AND SAVIOR! Romans 10:9: |
