| Issue What is 'reality'? The dictionary says, 'The quality or state of being actual or true.' Reality is absoluteness, it is that which actually exists or is true, or is authentic. Most people judge and are judged by what they do. If someone's job is plumbing, they say, I'm a plumber'. Others say, 'He's a plumber', or, 'She's a hairdresser', or, 'He's a college student.' Yet none of those are who you are - they are just what you do! What you 'do' is simply what you are doing at the present time. Who you 'are' is on the inside. So, who are you, really? What is true and what is real?
Jesus Christ declared that God's Word is truth! When we rightly understand the Scriptures, we have truth, the absolute truth!
Silver and other metals are purified so as to remove any impurities. God's Word is pure truth; just as if it were silver purified 7 times! God's Word does not contain half-truths. It doesn't contain a lot of truth! God's Word is truth - pure truth!
Many times in the Bible, God's Word is referred to as, law, statutes, precepts, commandments, testimonies, etc... These are all still referring to the Word of God. God's Word is perfect, it is sure, it makes the simple wise. God's Word is right, it rejoices the heart, it is pure, and it enlightens the eyes. God's Word is true and righteous altogether! So what does all that have to do with who you are? Well, since God's Word is true, and perfect, and right, and pure, and sure, then it certainly must be completely trustworthy and absolutely reliable! So when the Word of God speaks as to, 'Who you are', that is reality!
Is this just a nice religious cliché or phrase that we say at times to 'feel' good? Or, is this the absolute truth and reality of who you really are? Are we really and truly children of God Almighty, the Creator of the heavens and the earth? Is He truly and really our Father? Literally? Yes!! For those who are born again of God's spirit, God Almighty is literally your Father! That is reality! It is absolutely true! But, evidencing that reality in your life depends upon your free will. The sum total of who you are is up there in your head. In other words, the picture that you carry of yourself in your mind, not what others think or don't think, say or don't say, but the picture that you carry of yourself in your mind is who you are. It's like a student in school who is convinced that he's lousy at math and that it's too hard, and that he's just not smart enough to get it. How does he do in that subject? Lousy. He is convinced in his mind that he is lousy at that subject and that is what he evidences and manifests in his life. That's why God's Word is so applicable - it can be applied in every facet of your life! Sadly, because God's Word is not applied, many Christians fail, or just settle for second best. The picture that you carry of yourself in your mind is who you are: your opinion of yourself, your self image, your self esteem, your self worth - who you really think you are at this moment. BUT is that true reality? Your reality changes with what goes on in your head. What is God's opinion of you - how does HE see you? Is that important or relevant? You are His child - 'Beloved now are we the sons of God', remember? Think for a moment of some of the things He says about you. God says that you are His child, lovely and acceptable in His sight, that you have all spiritual blessings, that you are more than a conqueror, that you are a member in particular, that you are loved, forgiven, blessed, etc. It is your free will that allows you to accept true reality. It is also your free will that allows you to accept a false reality! THE REAL TRUTH, THE REAL REALITY IS WHAT GOD SAYS IS TRUE, PERIOD. So, if you decide, by your own free will, to accept a false reality about yourself, then that's what you will evidence in your life. If you see yourself as a failure, lousy, second rate, not smart, never getting a break, and so on, guess what you will see in your life? But, the truth is that you are what God's Word says you are and you have what God's Word says you have, because God's Word is the truth.
Think of that - a son, a child of God and an heir of God through Christ! Talk about being connected! You hear people talk all the time about 'connections' - if you have the 'right connections' you can really get ahead in life. How much bigger connection could we get than God Almighty being our Father!
Access to God Almighty, Who is our Father! And the Bible says that nothing shall separate us from the love of God, nothing! Our Father's love for us is unconditional! No wonder it says, 'If God be for us, who can be against us?' God's Word declares that in His sight we are lovely and acceptable, that we have been given all spiritual blessings, that we have eternal life, that nothing can separate us from His love, that we are more than conquerors in every situation, that we have access, direct access to Him, that we have forgiveness from Him when we need it, that He will supply all that we need. In fact, He said that He is able to do for us that which is exceeding abundantly above all that we could ask or think! That is reality! That is truth! If you saw someone dressed up like George Washington who was trying to recruit people for an army to fight the British you would certainly think that he was out of touch with reality! It's not the 1700's, the British are not coming, and, he is certainly not George Washington! He is out of touch with reality! But what about a Christian who goes around thinking that he is no good, has no connection with God, must struggle to get buy, a failure, etc.? Honestly speaking, that Christian is out of touch with reality! Now if we decide by our free will to not accept the truth, then it's our choice, our decision, and we will get the consequences. But why not accept what God's Word says about you and live a life that is more than abundant? Why not tap into the infinite resources of our loving God and Father? Why not rise up and believe God's Word and show the world what true Christians really are? They are blessed of God, excited, vibrant, victorious, enthused, anticipating miracles, full of joy, etc. etc. Who are you, really? |
